Seattle University School of Law actively seeks legal scholars from outside the United States to spend a semester or year as a visiting scholar. Visiting scholars will have access to our library resources – both paper resources and online resources – a dedicated carrel in our library, and access to faculty, students and staff.Visiting scholars will be expected to give at least one talk per semester and to be generally available to consult with and interact with our faculty and students.Depending on the interest of an applicant and the needs of our curriculum, a visiting scholar may also teach a course.While we are open to legal scholars focusing in any discipline of legal scholarship, we are particularly interested in applicants pursuing scholarship in the following areas:private international law; international or comparative corporate law; international human rights law; international or comparative environmental law; and international criminal law. Teaching stipends may be available, as well as travel and housing support.

Applications for the fall semester or for a full year should be submitted by November 1 of the prior year. Applications for the spring semester should be submitted by March 1 of the prior year. Past Visiting Scholar
Justice Zak Yacoob of the Constitutional Court of South Africa will be in residence January and February of 2009. During that time he will teach an intensive three week class on socio-economic rights.
