The Seattle Journal for Social Justice is honored to feature the original artwork of Frederick William Gearrin who focuses on community improvement and facilitating growth and healing through the visual arts.
Seeking to help sex-trafficking victims through art therapy, Gearrin painted Shana (featured on the cover) to relate a Jungian technique called "active imagination." The young women used this method to create self-portraits. The combination of images they chose reveals their hopes, ideals, attitudes, fears, and challenges. It became a way to literally see their feelings and personal outlook. Prints of their work were auctioned to benefit the women's center where they received counseling.
About the Artist
Frederick William Gearrin is currently exhibiting in Atlanta and Los Angeles galleries. The bulk of the his paintings are commissions, including murals, figure-drawings, and portraits, such as those for dedications and memorials. He works with recycled and reclaimed materials as visual artist/illustrator, graphic designer, and branding consultant. His website is http://sirfredgear.com.
