Law Alumni Board: Your Alumni Governing Body

The Law Alumni Board (LAB), serves as an advisory body to the dean and the Office of Alumni Relations. Including leading members of the alumni body who have made a commitment to advance the mission of the law school, LAB works to engage alumni in support of Seattle University School of Law’s mission of educating outstanding lawyers who are leaders for a just and humane world. LAB advises the alumni office on initiatives and activities designed to strengthen relationships in building an inclusive law school community of alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends.

The newest member of the Law Alumni Board, whose term of service began July 1, 2011, is John Worden '89. The Board, together with Dean Niles and the School of Law, wish to say thank you to Linda Strout '79, past-president, whose term ended on June 30.

Thank you to the alumni community for considering nominating an alumni peer to serve on the LAB beginning July 1, 2012. The application deadline is Thursday, October 20, 2011.

Board Committee Descriptions

AWARDS COMMITTEE: is responsible for the yearly selection of exemplary members of the alumni community, with consideration of demographics and diversity, to be honored as and presented with the Distinguished Law Graduate Award, the Alumni Service Award, and the Recent Graduate Award.

DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE: provides fundraising activities for the annual fund from current and former LAB members and alumni, and undertakes other development projects as conceived and developed by the committee in concert with the Office of Alumni Relations.

BOARD DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE: actively solicits nominations and selects candidates for recommendation to the LAB, with consideration of demographics, diversity, and the needs of the committees. The committee also nominates candidates for vacant offices. These recommendations are reviewed and approved by the LAB. Upon approval, recommendations are forwarded to the Dean and Director of Alumni Relations for final approval.

In addition, the committee plans and implements an orientation program for new members. It also reviews the activity of members to ensure membership requirements have been met by board members.

PROGRAM COMMITTEE: plans and actively participates in Alumni Weekend, Commencement, the New Year's Reception, and Office of Alumni Relations programming. The committee also works in collaboration with the Office of Alumni Relations to provide counsel and to develop internal and community outreach activities.
