
Paul Beattie

Biography
Paul Beattie is a seasoned litigator with over 55 trials and commercial arbitrations. His practice focuses primarily on intellectual property litigation, including patent, plant patent, design patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, unfair competition, non-compete, and licensing cases. Mr. Beattie also represents clients in other types of commercial litigation, including breach of contract, partnership dissolution, and business tort cases. He also drafts licenses, non-compete agreements, and other contracts and provides strategic business counseling. Mr. Beattie's strengths include strong writing abilities (with over 60 successful dispositive motions), significant first chair experience, and an ability to explain difficult concepts and technologies to juries. He also does some appellate work. Mr. Beattie has published and presented on patents, licensing, and biotechnology among other subjects.
Before practicing law, Mr. Beattie served as a Marine Corps Infantryman, graduating first in his platoon from Infantry Training School. He also taught immunology at the University of Chicago. He is married and has five children. His interests include travel, reading, creative writing, music, martial arts, and history.
