Archive Project
Seattle University School of Law recently celebrated its 35th Anniversary. In honor of this milestone, the Seattle University Law Library is compiling an archive of documents and other artifacts that reflect the history of the Law School.
To institute the archive, we are seeking donations of historical material from individuals connected to the Law School. The kinds of material we are seeking should document the Law School’s organizational structure, significant policies, actions and decisions, and/or document important people or events. Examples of materials might include:
- Audio/visual material depicting an important event at the law school
- Blueprints and legal documents
- Minutes, proceedings, reports which document significant policies, actions, or initiatives
- Memorabilia, institutional awards, sample brochures, certificates
- Sample newsletters, press releases, handbooks, photographs, scrapbooks
If you are interested in donating any items, please fill out the Archives Gift-in-Kind form and provide a description of the materials. In some cases, we may be able to make reproductions of materials (e.g. photographs, selected print materials) so that donors can retain the originals. We will review your description to determine whether the material fits within the scope of the archive and then contact you.
If you are considering donating, please note that the material will be characterized as a gift to the Law Library, and will become the permanent property of the Law Library. The Law Library will determine the classification, housing, circulation, and future disposition of your gift. Materials in the archive may be available for research on an unrestricted basis.
Although Seattle University Law Library is unable to provide you with an appraisal of your gift in accordance with Seattle University and IRS regulations, we are happy to send you a letter acknowledging your gift.
Bob Menanteaux, who joined the Law School in 1978, will be leading this project. Bob can be reached at: 206.398.4160 or arobertm@seattleu.edu. If you have any questions or would like more information, please check out our Archive Project FAQ.
Seattle University Law Library is excited to spearhead this project to document and preserve the past, present, and future history of the Law School.
