Popular Law Library Locations
The Seattle University Law Library collection is distributed on four floors. You may find that materials are assigned to different locations. The Law Library Catalog will indicate the location of the material. Some of the major locations are:
Reserve
Reserve materials, located on the 2nd floor of the Library in the alcove behind the Circulation Desk, include study aids, faculty course reserves, bound exams, videotapes, multi-volume works, current looseleaf services, ALI Restatements, form books and practice aids (Washington Practice series, Washington Lawyers Practice Manual, deskbooks and court rules).
Reference Desk
The Ready Reference area (shelving behind the Reference Desk) contains general reference material, including indexes, directories and dictionaries. Use of these materials is limited to the Reference Desk area.
Reference
The Reference stacks, located behind the Reference Desk, house a full set of Washington primary materials, frequently used federal materials, including the United States Code, Statutes at Large, and the Code of Federal Regulations, Amjur, CJS, print legal journal indexes, and state codes. Superseded Washington materials are located at the back of the Reference stacks.
Micromedia Room
The Micromedia Room (Room 204 in Reserve) houses the Library's collection of microforms (microfiche and microfilm). Here you will find an extensive collection of current and historic legal materials in microfiche and microfilm. The micromedia format allows the Library to collect and maintain the equivalent of nearly 200,000 volumes in a compact format. Microform holdings include international, federal, and state materials, bar journals, briefs from the U.S. Supreme Court, Washington State Supreme Court, the Washington Appellate Court, UN documents and much more. This room also contains two microformat reader printers (printouts are 10 cents a page) and three DVD/Video viewing stations.
3rd Floor
On the 3rd floor of the library, you will find federal case law and digests, the California Digest and Reports the Pacific Digest and Reports and the ALR. Washington materials are located in Range 3B. The Jerome McCristal Culp Jr., Collection on Race, Gender, and Sexuality in Law and Life is located in Range 3A.
3rd/4th Floor Treatises
Treatises are books which provide substantial treatment and analysis of a broad area of law. Treatises are generally shelved on the 3rd and 4th floors in call number order.
Court Level
The basement Court level, accessible by the elevator, is home to our collection of current and older law reviews and journals, the regional reporters, Commonwealth materials, archival materials, rare books and more.
