Seattle University School of Law Academic Resource Center is nationally renowned for its continued commitment to access to the profession, its comprehensive pedagogy, and its successful alumni. The purpose of the Academic Resource Center is to facilitate the learning experience of students so they can adjust, succeed, and excel in law school. Its primary focus is to support the diverse and non-traditional students who entered through the school’s Access Admissions program. Much of the Center’s work involves acculturating and empowering those who may or do feel disenfranchised by the law school experience. In 2006, the ARC Program, along with Professors, David Boerner and Paula Lustbader, received the Excellence in Diversity Award from the Washington State Bar Association. The ARC program was recently featured on the Docket as an innovated program to increase the diversity of the profession.
Professor Lustbader, the Director, and Chach Duarte White, the Associate Director, teach a variety of orientation and study strategy workshops for first year students, Criminal Law Learning Labs, Bar Exam Strategy workshop, and provide individual assistance to all students. The first-year orientation workshops range from how to excel in law school, how to write an exam, and how to keep dreams alive. A schedule for these workshops is posted on the ARC TWEN page. In addition, the Center has second and third-year student Teaching Assistants (TAs) for the majority of first-year subjects. TAs post study materials online throughout the semester and have regularly scheduled office hours.
As well as serving the general student body, the Center also has two specific programs for Access Admission Students and Referred Students. There is a summer ARC program for the Access Admission Students, and an academic year ARC program for both the Access Admission Students and Referred Students.
The TA applications are due by Wednesday, April 30. See application form for more details.
