Access Admission Students

Students who have been admitted through the following Access Admission process. The law school has had a long standing commitment to promote diversity within the law school and the legal profession. In addition, it has recognized the limited predictive qualities of the traditional statistical indicators. The admissions staff screens all applications for persons who do not meet the statistical requirements for regular admission, but who have been culturally, economically, or historically disadvantaged; who have not been in an academic setting for a number of years; or who have learning or physical disabilities, and who have indicators that show the applicant can compete in law school. Such indicators include relevant work experience or relevant course work at the undergraduate level. These students are enrolled in the ARC summer program, where they attend an ARC section of Criminal Law. During the academic year, they can attend the TA led study sessions.

The Access Admission Students have consistently participated in the school, serving on moot court, ADR, and other student groups, as well as serving in the SBA. Several of the SBA presidents were admitted through this program. Alumni from this program are serving the legal community in a number of ways as well. We have alumni who are now judges; working in big, medium, small, and single-practice firms; working in the public sector; and serving their communities.

Referred Students

First year students may be invited to participate in the ARC program based on a referral from the Assistant Dean of Students or Faculty. Upon such referral, the program director and the Assistant Dean of Students determine whether placement in the ARC program is appropriate.

General Students
