Cost

The figures illustrated below reflect the estimated 2012 program expenses. The program deposit of $250 is due with your application and will be deducted from your total charges.   If using financial aid, please contact Paula Nagel, the Seattle University student financial services rep at (206) 398-4288, or nagelp@seattleu.edu.  Non-SU students, please contact your financial services office to begin the consortium agreement process.

2012 Estimated Program Expenses (3 weeks)

Tuition  $2,625.00       $875 x 3 credits
Program Fee $900.00 Includes all field trips, program meals, transportation, course materials, airport  transfers, orientation, and travel medical insurance.
Housing Fee $1,050.00 3 weeks in Melville bed & breakfast guest house (estimate).
Meals $735.00 $35/day x 21 days (estimate)
Study Abroad Insurance Plan $40.65 included in the program fee.  After the program, students can extend coverage.  The rate is $40.65/month.  Spouse costs $114.30/month; a child $50.05/month. 
TOTAL $ 5,310.00

Field trips to Constitutional Court, Pilanesberg, Apartheid Museum, and Soweto are included in the program fee.

Airfare is not included in the estimate. You can budget approximately $2,250 for a roundtrip airfare from Seattle to Johannesburg, though airfares of $1,500 or below can be had if you book your flights early. Check discount sites such as airlineconsolidator.com or statravel.com often for economical fares.
