Universidad Carlos III de Madrid

The Madrid Program is a biennial, two-week, three-credit summer study abroad program sponsored by Seattle University School of Law and Universidad Carlos III Madrid. The program will take place at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, School of Law & Social Sciences in Getafe, Spain. The program offers an opportunity to study in another country, interact with students from Spain, and learn from EU guest speakers, and explore legal environments in Madrid.

The Universidad Carlos III de Madrid was founded in 1989 to provide an efficient, high quality public undergraduate and graduate education. The philosophy that has guided the university since its origins is to create responsible free-thinking people who are sensitive to social problems and willing to engage in progress based on freedom, justice and tolerance. Thus, the themes articulated in the university's goals are very much aligned with Seattle University Law School's social justice mission.

The School of Social Sciences and Law is located in Getafe, just ten kilometers outside of Madrid. The train station is a five minute walk to the university. A direct train line exists between the university and central Madrid making all the city's offerings accessible in about fifteen to twenty minutes. The train runs quite frequently.

The school's law and economics programs are ranked number one in the country. Moreover, the school emphasizes an international approach.

The university can provide dormitory housing for the students immediately across from campus in the Fernando de los Ríos student residential housing. Students will have the option of choosing a single or double room. Each room has a bed, desk, chair, closet, bookshelf, and drawers and each room has air conditioning. Should a student wish to bring his or her family, apartment housing is also an option. The campus is completely wired. The campus offers computer rooms and two libraries. In addition, a fitness center is available for student use. The students can pay extra to have a meal plan included in their lodging.
