As our communities have become more diverse, the need for language interpretation specific to legal issues and the provision of free legal services has dramatically increased. Meeting this need has been a challenge for legal service providers committed to doing pro bono work. In line with its commitment to justice for all, the Seattle University Access to Justice Institute has teamed up with the Seattle Area Pro Bono Coordinators and the King County Bar Association to help remedy this situation through their new Language Bank project.

What is the Language Bank?
The Language Bank utilizes the multilingual skills of Seattle University Law School students to help bridge language barriers by matching volunteer interpreters with legal service agencies or lawyers handling pro bono cases. Each student volunteer has completed a training session on the specific needs of legal interpreting.

What is the scope of our services?
We offer trainer volunteers to assist pro bono attorneys with OUT OF COURT communication with their clients. Language Bank volunteers are prohibited from providing any language assistance inside a court of law.

Who can use the Language Bank?
Any legal services provider or legal professional who is currently a member (or becomes a member) of the Seattle/King County Pro Bono Coordinators Group and is performing pro bono legal services for a low-income person or non-profit may use the Language Bank free of charge.

What Languages are available?
