The Community Justice Project

The CJC Project facilitates access to legal services by offering free topic-based legal education and advice to low-income and underserved community members. In collaboration with pro bono attorneys and community agencies, CJC student leaders and volunteers have coordinated legal educational presentations and advice clinics at various locations throughout the Puget Sound area. Through a strategic planning process, ATJI intends to identify ways to improve the CJC Project so that students are more involved with preparing and giving legal educational presentations. Also through the strategic planning process, ATJI intends to identify ways to potentially coordinate more focused clinics that make it easier for volunteer attorneys to commit to and clients to access.

During this time of strategic planning, there will be a transitional CJC located at the Chinese Information and Service Center (CISC) located in the International District. This fall semester, the transitional CJC at CISC will consist of a series of educational presentations on a variety of topics given by volunteer attorneys. Following the presentation, students will then interview anyone who needs a referral to an advice clinic in the community. The family law presentation will be different in that volunteer attorneys will be available afterward for free legal advice. If you're interested in being involved, please contact us at atji@seattleu.edu.

For topical information from past legal educational presentations, see the list of additional legal resources, which also includes information about other free legal clinics and legal rights information.
