The Dispute Resolution Board is a student group responsible for administering the ABA Law Student Division competitions in Client Counseling, Negotiation, and Mediation. The purpose of the Dispute Resolution Board is to encourage and to facilitate the development of Client Counseling, Negotiation, and Mediation skills. The Board organizes in-house competitions in the fall and spring of each academic year. Competitions provide students with an opportunity to learn about dispute resolution and counseling techniques under the supervision of a school faculty, local practitioners, and counselors. Students are scored on their performance and receive feedback regarding their strengths and weaknesses.
Additionally, the Board presents guests speakers at the law school’s Choices conference, which is held every Spring. Furthermore, the Board holds a Dispute Resolution Clerkship Competition each spring, in which the winner is awarded a paid summer clerkship. This is a joint project with the Washington State Bar Association in an effort to expose students to dispute resolution in a work setting.
Membership on the Board is determined by current Board members and is based on written statements of interest, resumes, and interviews of candidates. The Board selects new members each year during fall and spring semesters. If you have any questions or comments regarding the content posted on this site, please contact the webmaster.
