Since only one credit of the externship is graded, law schools around the country generally will not accept the transfer of these credits, thus externships are only available for Seattle University law students.
These law-related placements outside of the law school are opportunities for students to do legal work for an agency or court and earn academic credit. Students are closely mentored by an on-site supervising attorney or judge and have an opportunity for reflection and discussion with a faculty supervisor in a seminar format.

Externships will start the week of May 30, 2008, one week before the start of regular classes. Students completing a three credit hour externship will be required to work 18 hours per week; those completing a four credit hour externship will be required to work 24 hours per week. Students will be required to participate in an externship seminar via conference call once each week for two hours. Conference call times will be posted on this site by March 2008.
It is the student's responsibility to apply for, secure, and accept a job offer before registering for an externship. Students are required to supply corroborating documentation of a job offer and acceptance as part of the registration process. Students should note that externship positions have separate deadlines unrelated to the registration process with Seattle University.
All externships are summer-only positions.
