Law Alumni Board

The Law Alumni Board (LAB), serves as an advisory body to the dean and the Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Fund. Including leading members of the alumni body who have made a commitment to advance the mission of the law school, LAB works to engage alumni in support of Seattle University School of Law’s mission of educating outstanding lawyers who are leaders for a just and humane world. LAB advises the alumni office on initiatives and activities designed to strengthen relationships in building an inclusive law school community of alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends.

Board Committee Descriptions

DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE: works with the Advancement Office to develop and implement plans for generating gifts from alumni and others to support the Annual Fund for Excellence and other discrete law school initiatives.

OUTREACH COMMITTEE: works closely with the Advancement Office (specifically the Alumni Relations Office) to develop and implement policies for reaching out to and effectively engaging law school alumni. Areas of focus include alumni events, alumni honors, rules and procedures for LAB recruiting and membership, and outreach beyond the alumni community. The committee will also work closely with the Professional Development/Mentorship Committee to encourage alumni to engage with current students and recent graduates and assist them in their professional development.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT/MENTORSHIP COMMITTEE: works with the Center for Professional Development Office on programs and procedures to put SU students in the best possible position to achieve their professional goals. Committee members will work directly with students, but also with the Center for Professional Development and its staff, to help foster an understanding of what it takes to be successful after law school. The committee will also advise the Dean on programs and academic components that would be effective in developing sufficient skills and professional attributes to allow students to "hit the ground running" in practice.

STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE: works closely with the law school's Strategic Planning Committee chaired by Associate Dean for Mission and Strategic Planning to review and make recommendations regarding issues presented to faculty and staff as part of the school's strategic planning process. Issues to be addressed include budget management and tuition control, curricular development, fidelity to the social justice mission, marketing and enrollment enhancement, among others.
