Benefits for Our Alumni

The law school continues to expand its services to alumni. We are never happier than when we hear from our former students! Listed below are some of the benefits used most frequently. If you cannot find what you need, send us an e-mail, and we will do our best to find your solution.

Center for Professional Development

We are eager to hear from alumni who are searching for employment opportunities or who are seeking to fill a position within their firm. Whether you are looking to post an opening in your firm, are interested in making a lateral employment move, or are hoping to relocate to another part of the country, the Center for Professional Development is there to give you a hand. In addition, the Alumni Affairs Office is able to provide graduates, on request, specially tailored listings of alumni for networking and directory purposes greenwig@seattleu.edu.

You might also be interested in the State Work-Study program. About 350 current law students each year are qualified for employment which is subsidized by the state. Through this program, qualified legal employers may hire selected students-with the state reimbursing these legal employers up to 65% of their salaries. Expect to pay from $12 - $20 per hour for 2L and 3L interns. Information about work-study administration is available from the Center for Professional Development work study page or send an e-mail to lawfa@seattleu.edu.

Loan Repayment

Consistent with the Seattle University School of Law mission of preparing students who are committed to contributing to the common good by shaping an equitable legal system, Seattle University School of Law established a Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP). The LRAP is premised upon assisting graduates who choose full time public interest legal careers and are attorneys. Please visit our LRAP Web site for more information regarding the Seattle University School of Law LRAP.

Library and Legal Research

All alumni have lifetime library privileges. Graduates enjoy complete access not only to the print collection, but also to our extensive microfilm and government document collections. Library memberships, which include borrowing privileges, are available, as well. Laptop and notebook computers may be used throughout the library; all carrels and tables in the facility are wired with power and internet access. The library’s public terminals provide Internet access as well as access to non-restricted databases. Visit the library Web site.

Use of Facilities

On a space available basis alumni may use Law School classrooms, courtrooms, interview rooms and public spaces for retreats, client marketing programs, law-related social events, and other purposes. During the academic year these facilities generally are available Monday through Thursday before 9 a.m.; Friday after 12 noon, and weekends. For more information contact Assistant Dean Bird, rbird@seattleu.edu.

Order a Transcript

Do you need a transcript for a job application, a bar application, or personal reasons? The Registrar’s office will provide one for you generally within 24 hours. The cost to alumni is $5. While you cannot request a transcript via e-mail, you can download the form online and fax or mail it to the law school.

Complimentary Course Audits

Our law graduates may audit up to a total of six credit hours of law school classes free of charge. Course enrollment is on a space-available basis and subject to instructor’s approval. In some cases the Washington State Bar Association grants CLE credits for such enrollment. For the academic calendar and a listing of course offerings for the next term, go to the academics page.

Continuing Legal Education

The School of Law offers a number of CLE programs throughout the year at a reduced rate for our graduates. A wide range of topics are also available online. For CLE options check out our CLE catalog.

Faculty - Teaching, Scholarship and Programs

Are you interested in what the faculty is like these days? A number of veteran faculty are still around. They would love to hear from you. Check on what they have been doing, or peruse the equally impressive profiles of our newer faculty members. Our faculty continues to be comprised of impressive intellectuals with diverse backgrounds.

While our faculty have always placed a high priority on traditional, creative and clinical teaching, they also recognize the critical role that scholarship plays in academic excellence. In the last decade the law school faculty have published 18 books and well over 100 articles appearing in law reviews and journals of Cornell, Georgetown, Harvard, Michigan, Stanford, Texas and Yale, among others. Take a look, maybe you will want to find a copy to read.

Beyond the academy, faculty members serve the broader community by providing continuing legal education programs for the practicing bar. Their commitment to public service also is exhibited by work with the law school’s Access to Justice Institute. Additionally within the law school, we are proud to produce two journals in-house, the new Seattle Journal of Social Justice and the Seattle University Law School Law Review.
