This two-day training will focus on combating the abuses that are rampant in the predatory mortgage loan marketplace. The training, which will be conducted by local and national experts in the fight against predatory lending, is an intermediate-level training for practitioners who have had some basic exposure to this practice area. Topics covered will include:
Diane E. Thompson has represented low income homeowners since 1994. She spent over twelve years representing individual homeowners in East St. Louis, Illinois, where she worked for Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation, Inc. Ms. Thompson currently works of counsel for the National Consumer Law Center. While at Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance, Ms. Thompson served as the Homeownership Specialist, providing assistance to casehandlers representing homeowners in 65 counties in downstate Illinois, and the Supervising Attorney of the Housing and Consumer unit of the East St. Louis office. She has served on national and local boards, including the National Community Reinvestment Coalition's Board and the Metropolitan St. Louis Equal Housing Opportunity Council's Board. She was a member of the Consumer Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Board from 2003-2005. Between 1995 and 2001, Ms. Thompson served as corporate counsel to the largest private nonprofit affordable housing provider in the East St. Louis metropolitan area. She received her B.A. from Cornell University in 1991 and her J.D. from New York University in 1994.
Elizabeth Renuart is an attorney with the National Consumer Law Center in its Boston, MA office. She focuses on predatory lending, Truth in Lending, consumer credit issues, and sustainable homeownership issues. She co-authors two of NCLC’s treatises, Truth In Lending and The Cost of Credit. She is a co-author of the Stop Predatory Lending: A Guide for Legal Advocates and of related journal and law review articles. Ms. Renuart advocates on behalf of low-income consumers through testimony and written comments before the Federal Reserve Board, HUD, and the federal banking agencies. She teaches consumer law to legal services, private and government attorneys, and other advocates around the country. She was a member of the Consumer Advisory Council to the Federal Reserve Board from 2000-2003. Prior to coming to NCLC in 1996, Ms. Renuart was the managing attorney of a legal services program in Baltimore, MD that provided representation to homeowners in danger of losing their homes. She has been a legal services attorney since 1977 and has represented hundreds of clients.

You may cancel your registration and receive a full refund at any time up to the seventh calendar day preceding the program (e.g., the Friday preceding a program scheduled for a Friday). Thereafter, you may transfer the amount of your registration fee to a subsequent program scheduled for that semester, provided space is available. We regret that we cannot carry credits from one semester to another.
