How Can Due Process Be Improved?


In anticipation of the next reauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), two days of the 10th National Academy were focused on developing recommendations for improving the due process hearing system. The other two days consisted of traditional workshops. Suggestions for improving due process hearings were solicited from all current or former hearing officers, whether or not she or he contemplated attending the 10th Academy. 2011 California Special Education Hearing Officer and Mediation Training at San Diego

March 21-25, 2011

The Academy for IDEA Administrative Law Judges and Hearing Officers, on behalf of the California Office of Administrative Hearings, conducted a five-day training for mediators and special education hearing officers in San Diego, California. Among the topics presented were how bullying affects special education students, the role of the hearing officer, managing hearings, ethics and mediation, compensatory education and a review of recent decisions. Attendance is available to current special education hearing officers, state-level hearing system administrative personnel, or mediators from any state. For more information, click here.

2011 California Special Education Hearing Officer and Mediation Training at Sacramento

October 17-21, 2011

The Academy for IDEA Administrative Law Judges and Hearing Officers, on behalf of the California Office of Administrative Hearings, will conduct a five-day training for mediators and special education hearing officers in Sacaramento, California.
