How Can Due Process Be Improved?

Two days of the 10th National Academy were devoted to developing recommendations to improve due process for consideration by the U.S. Congress during the next reauthorization of IDEA. This will mark the first time that suggestions for improving the due process hearing system will have originated with active hearing officers. Two additional days were allocated for traditional presentations.

Special Overview for New IDEA Hearing Officers

A one-day overview of the special education process and hearing system was available for persons who have no or very little experience with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The focus was on distinguishing IDEA hearings from other types of hearings. Thereafter, attendees participated in the regular program.
