Letter from Professor Slye Endorsing Yale Law School Dean Harold Hongju Koh's Nomination for Legal Adviser

Dear Colleagues,

Linked below is a letter in support of the nomination of Yale Law School Dean Harold Hongju Koh to be the next Legal Adviser of the U.S. State Department. The letter was originally written by a small group of professors of both constitutional and international law. We are now reaching out to U.S. law professors of all disciplines who wish to express their support for Dean Koh's nomination. We are aware that there are many letters and other avenues through which you may have already expressed your support. We would like you to also endorse this letter, as we would like to be able to indicate the number of law professors throughout the country who support Dean Koh's nomination.

Dean Koh is not only eminently qualified for the position of Legal Adviser, he is the ideal choice for the position. Reflecting the bipartisan nature of the Obama Administration, Dean Koh has served in both the Reagan and Clinton Administrations - in the Justice Department of the Reagan Administration and as Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor in the State Department of the Clinton Administration. He thus brings an openness of mind and breadth of knowledge to the position that embodies the highest ideals of both Republicans and Democrats.

We are asking law professors throughout the country to express their support for Dean Koh's nomination by endorsing this letter (pdf). If you would like to add your name to the list, please click here. Please indicate your title and institutional affiliation, which will only be used for identification purposes. It is important that we receive your endorsement by April 20, as we anticipate Dean Koh's confirmation hearing to be scheduled shortly thereafter.

Sincerely,

Professor Ronald C. Slye
