Biography

Jennie Laird is an associate with the Law Offices of Michael W. Bugni & Associates, PLLC, a family law firm in Seattle's north end. Prior to her transition to private practice, she worked as a Staff Attorney in the King County office of Columbia Legal Services for six years, representing survivors of domestic violence in all manner of family law cases, working on legislative issues involving families and children, and training advocates, attorneys, and pro se litigants in issues involving the nexus of family law and domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Ms. Laird received the WSBA YLD Thomas Neville Pro Bono Award in 2003 for her service to low-income domestic violence survivors and related community organizations, and was named Outstanding Adjunct Faculty by Seattle University School of Law in 2010. She serves as a pro tem family law commissioner with the King County Superior Court, and is a member of the Washington State Gender and Justice Commission. Ms. Laird participated with Legal Voice's pro bono legal teams representing the petitioner in In re the Parentage of LB (155 Wn.2d 679 (2005)) and assisted in identifying plaintiffs and preparing trial-level pleadings for the plaintiffs in Andersen v. King County. Ms. Laird continues to volunteer with LV on the Family Formation/Recognition Policy Workgroup, and she is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the QLaw Foundation.
