Judge Linda Portnoy was appointed to serve as the presiding judge of Lake Forest Park Municipal Court in July 1998. Prior to her appointment, she worked as a public defender for The Defender Association in Seattle and a pro tem judge in a number of municipal and district courts in King County. Judge Portnoy is the author of Washington Criminal Practice in Courts of Limited Jurisdiction (LEXIS, 3rd Edition, 2004), a two-volume book published since 1991 and updated yearly. Judge Portnoy served on the Board of the Code Reviser’s Office from 1997 to 2005. She served as faculty for the State Judicial College from 2001 to 2004 where she taught general criminal procedure. She has served as the District and Municipal Court Judge’s Association (DMCJA) liaison to the State Department of Alcohol and Substance Abuse (DASA) since 2006. She served as chairperson of the DMCJA Benchbook Committee for three years and in 2005, assisted in editing the superior and lower court state benchbooks for the Administrative Office of the Courts. Judge Portnoy served as a member of the State Pattern Forms Committee for courts of limited jurisdiction from 1999 to 2008. Judge Portnoy recently completed a term serving on the Board for Judicial Administration and is a current member of the State Mandatory Continuing Judicial Education Committee. Judge Portnoy is actively involved in working with the Youth Court she founded at Shorecrest High School in 2001 and currently co-teaches the Street Law curriculum at Holy Names Academy in Seattle.
