Michele Gammer

Biography

Professor Gammer served as Associate General Counsel and head of the Employment and Benefits Law Group in Microsoft Corporation's Legal and Corporate Affairs Department for over ten years. In that role, she led a team of attorneys and paraprofessionals who interacted with executive level management and were responsible for handling employment claims and government agency proceedings, investigations, human resource policy and planning, benefit design and administration, affirmative action compliance, and diversity initiatives. Prior to joining Microsoft, she was a partner at the law firm of Preston Gates & Ellis LLP where she advised on all aspects of employment law, provided training to employers and attorneys, and handled employment litigation. In 2010, she launched her own firm, specializing in mediation and arbitration, investigations, and counseling and training in the field of employment and labor law. Professor Gammer serves as a mediator in employment disputes in state and federal court and is a member of the Rule 39.1 Panel in United States District Court, Seattle, Washington. She is also co-chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the Federal Bar Association of the Western District of Washington.

Professor Gammer is a Past-President and Trustee of the Federal Bar Association of the Western District of Washington and has previously served as a Ninth Circuit Lawyer Representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference and a member of the Executive Committee of that Conference. She chaired the Taskforce on the Availability of Legal Assistance for Low Income Civil Litigants in Federal Court and was a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Taskforce that recommended changes to the Western District's Rule 39.1. For many years, she was the Coordinator of the Federal Civil Rights Pro Bono Panel in United States District Court. She received the 2002 Outstanding Service Award from the Federal Bar Association and the 1987 Outstanding Attorney Award from the Young Lawyers Division of the Seattle-King County Bar Association.
