Professor Murphy has taught at Gonzaga Law School in 2000. Her primary teaching interests are in the areas of Tax Law and Evidence. She has received the Orland Professor of the Year award numerous times, most recently in 2013.
Before joining the Gonzaga faculty, she worked as an attorney for the Internal Revenue Service for nearly 15 years. While with the I.R.S., she tried 50 cases before the United States Tax Court, dealing with issues including fraud, business deductions, mergers and acquisitions, TEFRA partnerships, corporate expenses, and exempt organizations.
