Mr. Karp is a regional and national leader in the field of Animal Law, having argued significant cases in the field before state and federal courts. He founded the Animal Law sections of the Washington and Idaho Bar Associations. He has also served in a vice chair position of the American Bar Association's ("ABA") Animal Law Committee since its formation in 2004.
A contributing editor of the Animal Legal Report, he regularly writes on the topic of animal law, including sections in significant legal resources, such as American Jurisprudence Trials and American Jurisprudence Proof of Facts. He has taught animal law courses at Seattle University School of Law and the University of Washington School of Law for more than a decade. He has presented at law schools and CLE programs around the country and has been quoted often in leading national and local publications in the popular press.
In 2012, he received the Excellence in the Advancement of Animal Law Award from the American Bar Association's Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section's Animal Law Committee, honoring his commitment and leadership in working for the humane treatment of animals through the law.
