Jennie Laird is an associate with Seattle Divorce Services, a small family law firm in Ballard. Prior to her transition to private practice, she worked as a Staff Attorney in the King County office of Columbia Legal Services for six years, representing survivors of domestic violence in all manner of family law cases, working on legislative issues involving families and children, and training advocates, attorneys, and pro se litigants in issues involving the nexus of family law and domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Ms. Laird received the WSBA YLD Thomas Neville Pro Bono Award in 2003 for her service to low-income domestic violence survivors and related community organizations. She previously taught Poverty Law at the University of Washington School of Law as a part-time professor and has recently been named a pro tem family law commissioner with the King County Superior Court. Ms. Laird participated with the Northwest Women’s Law Center’s pro bono legal teams representing the petitioner in In re the Parentage of LB (155 Wn.2d 679 (2005)) and assisted in identifying plaintiffs and preparing trial-level pleadings for the plaintiffs in Andersen v. King County. Ms. Laird continues to volunteer with the NWWLC on their Legislative Committee, and she is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the King County Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the City of Seattle’s Women’s Commission.
