‘Out of the Ashes’ plays at the Gig Harbor Film Festival
(September 20, 2011) Professor Emeritus Marilyn Berger's compelling film, "Out of the Ashes: 9/11," was selected to play at the Gig Harbor Film Festival. Alumni are invited to a special reception before the screening on Friday, Oct. 14.
The reception will be from 7 - 8 p.m. at The Wine Studio Wine Bar, Gig Harbor, featuring a complimentary tasting from Brian Carter Cellars a Woodinville Winery. The screening follows at 8 p.m. at the Galaxy Theater Uptown, Gig Harbor, and will be followed by a question and answer session with Professor Berger.
"Out of the Ashes" explores the legal, moral, and ethical ramifications of the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund and its impact on the civil justice system. Through the compelling stories of seven families who were affected by the attacks, it asks important questions, such as: Was the method for calculating the value of a human life an appropriate model? Did the Fund undermine our legal system? Did the Fund hide the facts about 9/11? Or did the Fund offer 9/11 families a way to avoid the cost, complexity, and slow pace of a lawsuit? Was justice delivered?
Tickets must be purchased through the film festival. Tickets are $8 per person. Seats are limited. In addition to pre-purchasing your ticket, please RSVP to Val Ross by Friday, October 9. Seats will be reserved for registered guests of SU Law.
