Law Alumni Board thanks outgoing member, welcomes new

(July 1, 2011) The Law Alumni Board bid farewell to a former president and welcomed a new member July 1.

Linda StroutLinda Strout '79, one of the law school's most devoted graduates, completed her term on the board June 30. Strout retired as deputy chief executive officer for the Port of Seattle, with management oversight responsibilities for the Port's Human Resources and Labor Relations Departments, as well as its Environmental and Security Strategy Teams. She has served on the boards for Artist Trust, King County Bar Foundation, Columbia Legal Services and the Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center.

She has held many leadership positions in the King County Bar Association, including serving as president. Strout received the law school's 2007 Reah M. Whitehead Leadership Award, which recognizes women in the legal profession who have provided outstanding leadership and contributed significantly both to the community and the law school.

John WordenThe newest member of the board is John Worden '89, a partner with the San Francisco office of 400-lawyer Schiff Hardin. He has been with Schiff Hardin since 1989 and has been a partner since 1996. He practices throughout the United States and, in addition to substantial work in California and elsewhere, heads the firm's Nevada practice.

A successful trial lawyer, he has tried and won dozens of cases of all kinds across the country. He also has served as an arbitrator for the San Francisco County Superior Court and private parties since 2004. Worden has visited the law school in the past to speak to students and alumni, providing tips on what lawyers, especially newer lawyers, can do to develop clients and generate business. 

The Law Alumni Board (LAB), serves as an advisory body to the dean and the Office of Alumni Relations. Including leading members of the alumni body who have made a commitment to advance the mission of the law school, LAB works to engage alumni in support of Seattle University School of Law's mission of educating outstanding lawyers who are leaders for a just and humane world. LAB advises the alumni office on initiatives and activities designed to strengthen relationships in building an inclusive law school community of alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends.

The board is seeking nominations for positions that will be open July 1, 2012. The deadline is Friday, September 30, 2011.
