Letter from the DirectorThis summer, we continue to celebrate the leadership of our interim dean, alumna of the class of ’89, Annette E. Clark, M.D., J.D. Dean Clark has fully transitioned into her new, and much more external, role as dean of Seattle University School of Law. Please join the law school community and me in wishing Dean Clark well during her service as interim dean.
Seattle University Provost Isiaah Crawford completed the appointment of the dean search committee for the School of Law. I am pleased to announce that Linda Strout '79, president of the Law Alumni Board, the governing board for the Alumni Association at Seattle University School of Law, has been asked to serve and to offer her leadership in the effort to identify the next permanent dean of the law school. The committee is looking forward to getting your thoughts and feedback on the future leadership of our law school. In this issue, you’ll find out how you can share your voice!
In addition to the Alumni Relations Office programming this fall, we are excited about two law school events planned in September. Justice Sandra Day O’Connor will be here on Monday, September 14, to headline and participate in a conference on State Judicial Independence that the law school is hosting. Second, the law school is co-hosting a conference on Promoting Diversity in Law School Leadership, which will bring to Sullivan Hall law school deans and individuals from around the country who are interested in becoming deans. This will be a terrific opportunity for us to showcase our school and build our national reputation among leaders within the academy.
Alumni Weekend 2009 was a rousing success! Alumni reconnected at champagne reunion celebrations, a memorable awards luncheon, and a bittersweet farewell to retiring faculty. It was a lovely weekend, highlighting and celebrating cherished members of our law school community, our alumni.
Please plan to join us next spring for Alumni Weekend 2010 on April 23-24, 2010. In the meantime, visit the Amicus Brief photo gallery for highlights of the weekend!
There is much you can look forward to this fall. Enjoy this issue of the Amicus Brief and learn about everything your law school offers alumni. I look forward to seeing you at upcoming events and programs!
With warmest regards,
Grace
