Alumni Awards at Seattle University School of Law
Seattle University School of Law is proud to honor the outstanding achievement of distinguished members of the alumni community with annual awards.
The alumni association, led by the Law Alumni Board, is currently soliciting nominations for three prestigious awards to be presented at Alumni Weekend 2010. The nomination deadline is March 15, 2010. Members of the law school community have this opportunity to recognize outstanding individuals for their exemplary accomplishments and service to the law school and the global community. Your recommendations are critical to our ability to honor alumni excellence, exceptional achievement and extraordinary service that exemplify our mission.
Distinguished Law Graduate Award
Established to honor an alumna/us whose career achievements embody the mission, principles, and goals of Seattle University School of Law as it emphasizes academic excellence and education for justice. Awardees are graduates who have distinguished themselves in their field, earned high respect among their colleagues and the general community, and whose impact is realized on a local, national or global level.
Alumni Service Award
Established to honor a respected and distinguished graduate of the law school who has demonstrated exemplary service and a continuing commitment to the law school while also embodying the school's dedication to academic excellence and education for justice. Awardees are graduates who have made significant and substantive contributions to the advancement of the law school, the development of the law school community, and the school's reputation.
Award for Recent Graduates
Established to recognize an individual who has graduated within the past 10 years and who has demonstrated an exceptional commitment and support to the development of an engaged and vibrant SU community.
In addition to the three Alumni Association sponsored awards, the following School of Law alumni awards are presented annually at three separate alumni/student receptions. The Access to Justice Institute solicits springtime nominations for the first award listed below, and the Office of Alumni Relations requests nominations in the fall for all of the other awards. Nomination emails will include a link to the official nomination form.
Alumni Advocate for Social Justice
The Access to Justice Institute recognizes and honors SU Law graduates who have a proven record of commitment to social justice though consistently advocating on behalf of marginalized or underserved individuals or communities, supporting and mobilizing others to support the equal justice community, and taking leadership to collaborate and foster service in the legal profession.
BLSA Alumni Award
The Black Law Student Association Alumni Award recognizes alumni who have demonstrated excellence in the practice of law and a commitment to community service. Prior awardees have also demonstrated continued dedication to BLSA and a strong commitment to the service of others.
BLSA Leadership Award
The Black Law Student Association recognizes alumni who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership in the legal community and the community at large. We are honoring leaders in the community who are at the forefront of change within the world.
La Justicia Award
The La Justicia Award honors a Latina/o alumnus whose contributions and achievements in the legal community embody the law school’s principle of standing for excellence and reaching for justice. Through mentorship, their commitment supports the school’s mission of educating outstanding attorneys to be leaders for a just and humane world. The Latina/o alumnus selected will be recognized for contributions to the legal community, the greater community at-large, as well as unwavering dedication and commitment to the advancement of the law school and law school community.
Spirit of Service Award
The Spirit of Service Award acknowledges a Latina/o alumnus who is unequivocally committed to a more just and humane world. The award will recognize alumni who work to foster justice and promote equal representation in the justice system, and has made sacrifices to ensure that the underrepresented are given a voice.
