Letter from the Director
President Sundborg names new dean for 2010
We remain excited about the appointment of Mark Niles, Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at American University, Professor Mark Niles as the next dean of Seattle University School of Law. Many of us had an opportunity to meet with him during his campus visit back in November and look forward to his leadership of the School of Law. Dean Designate Niles plans to be back in Sullivan Hall for multiple visits this spring with faculty, staff and the university before his formal start date of July 1.
We wish to take this opportunity to once again thank Linda Strout, as president of the Law Alumni Board, for her representation of the alumni community and the greater law school community with her service on the Dean Search Committee.
Our office is busy with final plans for the Alumni Weekend Celebration in April. The goal is to plan a gathering that meets the needs and interests of all alumni, while celebrating a common SU Law bond. You can participate in making this a meaningful weekend by sharing your programming ideas with us, joining the alumni planning committee, and rallying your friends, colleagues and former classmates to join you. Be in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org. The theme of this year’s Weekend, and the current schedule, is highlighted in the Upcoming Events section of the Amicus Brief.
Alumni programming this year has been truly exciting. Our regional outreach continues to grow, the award season has been kicked off with the Black Law Student Association’s Alumni Awards Reception last week, and the Recent Alumni Committee is committed to meeting the needs of recent graduates. You can read more in this issue’s Becoming Engaged Section.
Also, be sure to visit the Bar Scene to learn about all the connections that can be made among alumni in the various Washington Bar organizations.
Seattle University School of Law was in Tacoma for the annual Lincoln Day Banquet on February 19th. We are proud to support the South Sound legal community and, in particular, we are honored to celebrate our alumni who give back in so many meaningful ways.
On behalf of the Office of Alumni Relations and the entire law school community, we wish you a prosperous 2010. We hope to see you at one of the many programs and events this year.
With warmest regards,
