Washington D.C. Alumni Regional Chapter launches
Alumni who live and work in the Washington D.C. area are invited to meet Dean Annette Clark, Director of Alumni Relations Grace Greenwich and representatives from the Center for Professional Development Thursday, Oct. 22. The Office of Alumni Relations is excited to launch the Washington D.C. Regional Alumni Chapter. If you are in the area, please join Assistant Dean for the CPD Shawn Lipton, CPD Associate Director Stacy Lara-Kerr, current students attending the Equal Justice Conference and fellow alumni at 5:30 p.m. in the Thornton Room of the Hyatt on Capitol Hill. If you’re interested in attending, RSVP to rsvplawalumni@seattleu.edu.
Seattle University School of Law has expanded its outreach to alumni through its regional alumni programs. In addition to D.C., chapters are being formed in New York, and there is interest by other groups in Southern California, Tacoma, Alaska, Chicago and Texas. Next month, a special swearing-in ceremony will be held in Tacoma for new members of the bar and their families. Last year’s celebration was a huge success. In January, faculty members, Alumni Relations staff and other administrators will be in New Orleans to attend the American Association of Law Schools (AALS) Conference and we very much look forward to engaging alumni living and working in the region at that time.
Also in the spring, representatives will travel to Chicago and Dallas to co-host events with alumni who have offered their leadership. We also plan to travel to Anchorage in the summer. The Office of Alumni Relations will work with alumni leaders and partner with the Center for Professional Development, the Office of Admission, and the Externship Program to further develop the specific programming in each region.
Nominate an alumni colleague to the Law Alumni Board
The Law Alumni Board (LAB) and the Office of Alumni Relations are soliciting your help, as members of the alumni community, in identifying alumni leaders to serve on LAB. The nominations committee is seeking alumni who care about Seattle University School of Law and are willing to devote time, imagination and resources to the LAB’s goals, which include:
-
Acting as advisors to the alumni office and the dean;
-
Acting as informed advocates for the mission and vision of the School of Law;
-
Serving as a liaison between the school and the legal community;
-
Taking a leadership role in sponsoring events, fundraising, and supporting the school on public policy issues;
-
Recognizing professional achievements of alumni;
-
Fostering a sense of responsibility for the law school among its graduates;
-
Serving as mentors to students and recent graduates.
New members of the board will be installed in April 2010. Please complete an application, and nominate yourself or a colleague. If you are nominating a colleague, please refrain from contacting the nominee as this is a confidential process. The deadline to submit a LAB nomination application has been extended to Friday, November 6, 2009.
