Registration Information - Preference Courses

Preference Classes

During fall and spring registration periods, upper-level classes are divided into the following registration categories:

• Equal Preference - All upper-level law students have an equal opportunity to register for EQ classes (offered on a periodic or one time only basis) by random lottery at the beginning of registration.
• Part-time Preference - Part-time/evening students may register for any section designated part-time preference (usually multiple sections offered in the evening with the section assignment “E”) before full-time students.
• Full-Time Preference - Full-time/day students may register for any section designated full-time preference (usually multiple sections offered in the day with the section assignment “A - D”) before part-time students.
• Priority by Year Preference - Any student may register for a course designated as a priority by year class if it is open during his or her assigned appointment time and the pre/co-requisite requirements have been met.

Spring 2008 Equal Preference Classes

* Professional Skills Course

To register for an Equal Preference course, sign up for the random lottery on November 1 or 2.

• Select “Register/Add Classes” in the Registration section of the Students Menu.
• Choose “08ES Law Equal Preference” from the term menu, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “submit”.
• Check the box(es) next to your selected course(s). Classes will appear to be wait listed.
• The Office of the Registrar will register students for equal preference classes by random lottery on Monday, November 5.
• We will notify you by e-mail regarding your equal preference course registration and/or wait list status.
• If there are spaces available in any Equal Preference courses after the random lottery, students may register for the courses at their scheduled appointment time.

Spring 2008 Priority by Year Preference Classes

All other classes are considered priority-by-year classes (except Moot Court, Law Review, Dispute Resolution Competitions, Seattle Journal for Social Justice, Externships, and Independent Studies).

Students register for part-time preference, full-time preference and priority by year preference classes at their scheduled appointment time.
