Video Conferencing
The School of Law has one portable video conferencing unit which can be used in conference rooms or connected to the sound system in all of our classrooms. However, there are many caveats to videoconferencing, so we cannot guarantee 100% compatibility with all remote locations. Therefore, VTC requests must be submitted several weeks in advance (for testing remote connections) and is subject to the availability of our single unit. To start this process, please make arrangements through your administrative assistant, Event Administration or Student Life. Logins to online request forms are restricted: Video Conference Request Form.
Limitations
Note that Internet traffic is prone to fluctuations in quality based on network activity, so occasional buffering and pixelations is possible. Connections with remote parties should take place during the ten minutes prior to your event starting, as it takes time. Please organize your event accordingly. Also, we do not have the ability to make video conferencing connections using a satelite or ISDN lines. Our connections are IP over the Internet only.
Compatibility is another concern. For a successful connection, the remote location must have an open firewall on their network and equipment that supports Video Conferencing in the same fashion we do. Therefore, it is imperative that we receive several weeks notice, along with technical contact information for the remote location, so both parties have an opportunity to setup an end-to-end test.
