Study Law in Alaska

June 7 – July 29: Summer 2010

Seattle University School of Law, in cooperation with the University of Alaska Anchorage, offers this innovative program in Anchorage, Alaska, during the summer of 2010. Students earn four course credits, gain significant legal experience, and spend the summer in beautiful Alaska.

The Study Law in Alaska Program provides internship and externship opportunities and the nation's only substantive law course titled, "Alaska Natives and Environmental Law." Designed for law students at ABA-approved law schools who have an interest in exploring career options in Alaska, students learn from experts in Anchorage, Alaska, about important environmental, legal and social issues that impact Alaska Native rights, oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and wildlife preservation.

Eligibility

Seattle University School of Law welcomes visiting students in good standing from any ABA-accredited law school who have completed at least one year of law school. Students who meet those criteria are required to submit a letter of good standing from their current institution.

How to Apply

Please send all application materials to Stephanie Nichols, Director of the Study Law in Alaska Program, at the address below.

1. Complete the application form (pdf) by March 15, 2010;
2. Submit your top two internship choices. Please also include specific cover letters, resumes, transcript, brief writing sample, and any other materials requested by the internship placements.
3. Submit a non-refundable deposit of $250 with your materials.

The Study Law in Alaska Program offers a 4-credit class and internships taught by faculty who are experts in their respective fields, as well as a variety of events to expose students to the Anchorage and larger Alaska legal communities. There is also an opportunity for students who qualify to participate in externships. We will be happy to answer any questions regarding tuition as well as any financial aid concerns. University of Alaska Anchorage Facilities

All students enrolled in the program will be considered University of Alaska Anchorage students. As UAA students, all participants in the summer program will have access to all facilities and will be able to use the gym for a small additional fee. Internet access will also be provided and students will be able to rent camping equipment, mountain bikes, canoes, and kayaks at very reasonable rates. In addition, the UAA issued I.D. card allows for free travel on all city buses.
