1L Diversity Program
Every year, a number of local firms sponsor 1L Minority/Diversity summer programs as part of their diversity efforts. Each program includes a paid position for the summer, and some also include a scholarship. These firms are looking for students who will diversify their firms in particular and the profession in general. There is no definition for minority or diversity; rather, you need to think about whether you fit what they are looking for, then make your case. (Think of it like a Legal Writing exercise.)
Evening students are eligible and have been selected in the past, but you must be able to accept a full-time job for at least six to eight consecutive weeks.
Upcoming events:
- There will be a Diversity 1L Student Reception at K&L Gates on Thursday, January 7, 2010. Dress is business professional.
- The Annual Diversity Fellowship Meet & Greet with individual firms will be (date and time TBD) in the Second Floor Gallery. The event format will feature "table talk" and an opportunity to mingle with attorneys and recruiting representatives from firms hosting a 1L summer diversity fellowship. Dress is business professional.
- Program representatives from the Puget Sound Area Minority Clerkship Program will be on campus (date and time TBD) in the Second Floor Gallery to talk about the program and answer questions about the application process. Dress is business casual.
- CPD will be hosting an informal information session featuring last year's student participants in the Puget Sound Area Minority Clerkship Program on (date and time TBD) in Room 109. Come learn about the experience you can get in the program and the application process from people who have lived it! Pizza will be served.
Don't forget there are lots of people here who are happy to help you with your materials: past participants in these programs, and of course all of us in CPD.
