Apply for graduation

  • If you have not yet applied for graduation, please do so at your earliest opportunity via mySeattleU! The application can be found on the landing page.
  • Submission of the Graduation Application form is required even if you do not plan to attend the ceremony.
  • The application gives you the ONLY opportunity to indicate the way in which your name will be printed in the commencement program and on your diploma.
  • Be sure to submit the phonetic pronunciation of your name to ensure correct pronunciation during the commencement ceremony.
  • Please disregard sections regarding your regalia measurements. You will order your regalia directly from Jostens.
  • You will receive a system-generated email once your application has been submitted.

Order your cap and gown

  • Academic dress is required to participate in the commencement ceremony.
  • Regalia, graduation announcements and other keepsakes will available to order online through the Jostens website.    
  • Regalia rental is provided free of charge to graduates. There are no special cords, tassels, or colors for students graduating with honors. Some student organizations will bestow stoles or cords; however, these will not be a part of your rental package.
  • Please order our rental regalia no later than Friday, March 8, 2024.  
  • Announcements are available for purchase at the same time you request your regalia package.

Pick up your cap and gown

  • Caps and gowns for Commencement will be distributed Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm on the 2nd Floor Gallery of Sullivan Hall.  
  • You may have a friend or family member pick up your regalia on your behalf.
  • If you are unable to pick up your regalia on the distribution date, it will be held for you in the Dean's Office up to the day before the ceremony.
  • Return your regalia at the venue following the ceremony. A Jostens Representative will be at the commencement ceremony to assist.

Commencement Student Speaker & Outstanding Faculty Award

  • Members of the graduating class will select the student speaker and the recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award, as well as their faculty hooders and marshals. The election will be coordinated by the Associate Dean of Student Life, Diversity & Inclusion.
  • Be on the lookout for more information about the nomination process and elections coming soon.

Family Hooders

  • Graduating students who have a family member who is a graduate of Seattle University School of Law or University of Puget Sound School of Law may invite that relative to assist in their hooding during the ceremony. In keeping with the University tradition, members of the faculty, staff, University Board of Trustees or Board of Regents may also be invited to assist in the hooding of family members.
